The Irving Chorale’s first international tour was for nine days in June of 1994 to England and Wales. The Chorale presented a patriotic concert at St. Mary’s Church in Portsmouth in remembrance of the fallen heroes of World War II during ceremonies commemorating the 50th anniversary of the D-Day Invasion. Other concert venues included Hampton Lucy Church in Warwick and St. Andrew’s Church in Oakington. Music for the tour included All My Hope on God is Founded, Hodie Christus Natus Est, Magnum Mysterium, The Prayer of Saint Francis, Shenandoah, I Hear America Singing, When Johnny Comes Marching Home, From Sea to Shining Sea, and the Battle Hymn of the Republic. While on tour, Chorale members visited historic D-Day sites and museums, along with other famed historic landmarks such as Bath, where the famous Roman Baths still stand; ancient Stonehenge; Stratford, where Anne Hathaway and William Shakespeare were married; Cambridge, where many of England’s most famous colleges stand; and London, where the group visited St. Paul’s Cathedral, Westminster Abbey, and Piccadilly Circus.
